Phil is a born leader. Ever since he was born, Phil has dreamed of being the one in charge.

Only problem is, there is no reason for anyone to ever listen to Phil. Phil sucks at literally everything. He's not smart enough to lead by example, nor savvy enough to lead through persuasion. He's unqualified for jobs where you are given authoritarian powers, like Officer of the Peace and Teacher. He's not big and strong enough to lead by intimidation. He's not rich or connected enough to lead with money of influence.

So, in an effort to be leader of something, Phil became the Town Gatekeeper. Yes, he is the leader of the two square meters of land you have to cross to get in and out of town, and you better believe he relishes every opportunity he can to lord this power over the people of Borrington.

However, gatekeeping doesn't exactly pay very well.
